{"id":217,"date":"2009-09-17T18:16:54","date_gmt":"2009-09-17T22:16:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/providenceworkingwaterfront.org\/index.php\/2009\/09\/17\/not-fit-for-the-animals-but-right-for-hotel-guests\/"},"modified":"2018-12-18T14:33:24","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T18:33:24","slug":"not-fit-for-the-animals-but-right-for-hotel-guests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/providenceworkingwaterfront.org\/index.php\/2009\/09\/17\/not-fit-for-the-animals-but-right-for-hotel-guests\/","title":{"rendered":"Not fit for the animals but right for hotel guests?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projo.com\/news\/content\/PROVIDENCE_ANIMAL_CONTROL_09-12-09_4JFLQSA_v15.353d489.html#\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Providence Journal<\/em><\/a>, a City Council appointed commission has concluded that the city&#8217;s new animal shelter should not be built along the main road leading into the Port of Providence because &#8220;it would be too stressful an environment for the animals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>But the council\u2019s animal shelter commission argues that the new site poses a safety hazard for the animals, since it is in a flood zone and in a heavily industrialized area.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The high volume of truck traffic on the road where the shelter would be located, as well as two rail lines nearby, would contribute to a stressful environment for the animals, commission members say.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI don\u2019t think that anyone would argue that this is a utopia,\u201d said State Veterinarian Scott N. Marshall, who is a member of the council commission. \u201cIt\u2019s not a place you\u2019d want to visit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>E.J. Finocchio, president of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and another commission member, was even blunter: \u201cYou couldn\u2019t find a worse site than what is being proposed.
